A night of classics and film scores
ChromaMusic Community Orchestra celebrated their second concert on Sunday 23rd October at St Catherine's Hall in Gorseinon, and it was another great success!
Over the last few months, ChromaMusic's orchestra has continued to grow, welcoming new members, playing a range of different genres, and developing our woodwind section in particular.
We were very excited to show everyone how much our skills have developed during last Sunday's concert. For some of our newer members, it was the first time they had played in a concert since they were a child! We performed a number of classical pieces and film scores that we had been practising since Easter.
The night kicked off with our rendition of the Hungarian Dance by Brahms, the orchestra's favourite piece of the last few months. Then we went on a little journey to Spain with two pieces from Carmen Suite No.2 by Bizet. After this, the superb James McBeth, a previous student who is now a professional cellist, performed Song Without Words by Mendelssohn, The Swan by Saint-Seans, and Prelude from Cello Suite No.3 by Bach. The Llanelli Wind Band also delighted us with a few pieces from their repertoire, and the audience particularly enjoyed their rendition of The Addams Family Theme.
After the interval, the orchestra returned to play the Doctor Who Theme, with an excellent electronic arrangement by our lead cellist, Lloyd. The concert ended with a thrilling performance of In the Hall of the Mountain King, by Grieg.
We would like to thank everyone who helped out with the refreshments, the parking, and tidying up at the end.
The orchestra will now start preparing for ChromaMusic's Joy to the World Christmas Concert on 10th December, which will be an occasion to bring together a number of local community and church groups, including ChromaMusic's new choir. Hope to see you there too!
