Christmas Concert 2023

We are really pleased to post the recording of our concert. We hope you enjoy listening to the wonderful performances.

This year we decided to do our Christmas concert a little earlier on 25th November 2023 and had a brilliant time.

It is 2 years since we started advertising for members for our ChromaMusic Community orchestra and we are delighted that we now have nearly 30 members with all sections of the orchestra covered. We have welcomed many new players who haven't played in an orchestra before and several who have returned to playing their instrument after many years. The progress made this year both individually and as an ensemble has been tremendous, we are really proud of all the members who work very hard each week, learning music from the classical repertoire through to music from the movies and musicals.

It is 1 year since we started the choir and their enthusiasm and sound is a joy to hear! They have covered a varied range of songs this year from "You raise me up!" to "The Wombles", and covered some festive favourites for the concert. We have had fun composing new words to one of our warm ups 'Bele Mama' both for the Harvest Festival and for this Christmas Concert. They also have colourful new scarfs and folders which looked really smart on the day of the concert! We are now trying out a new rehearsal space at Llys Y Werin Day Centre.

We had 2 fabulous performances by our soloists this year. Danielle Lake sang a heartfelt and moving performance of  'I dreamed a dream' followed by James McBeth on cello with a beautiful performance of the ever popular 'O Holy Night'.

This year we were supported by Gorseinon and District Brass Band who played a fabulous range of music from Marches to Christmas Medleys and made a beautiful sound in the acoustics of the church. The band also meet at Llys Y Werin on a Thursday evening and welcome new member. They have instruments that can be borrowed and welcome complete beginners.

We want to say a big thank you to St Catherine's for the use of such a beautiful space and their support for us as ChromaMusic Community. In October we joined them for their Harvest Festival playing popular harvest hymns with the choir performing a few pieces before and after the service too.

Thank you also to Ty Cerdd, Llwchwr Town Council and Gorseinon Town Council for their financial support and enthusiasm for community music.
